Our Lady of
the Bayou Cajuns

Dolores Legendre, a local artist,
was commissioned by Mother Mary Henry O.P., Prioress of the Dominican
Contemplative Sisters of Lockport, LA to do an oil painting on canvas
(6'4" x 4'8") of "Our Lady of the Bayou Cajuns."
Mother Mary Henry said, "I
know that the Cajun people have a very strong devotion to Our Lady and that
Our Lady is always looking over us." With that thought, Dolores
began the painting in October 1994, and completed it in May, 1999.
This painting was not the result
of any vision or apparition. It is the artist's preservation of the role
of the Blessed Virgin Mary as protector of Cajun life and customs.

PRAYER
OUR LADY OF THE BAYOU CAJUNS
O Mary, we thank You for having
accepted to be the Mother of God and also our Mother. We know you have
particular love for the Cajun people who are sincere, honest and who love you
very much. We ask you to help us to follow Jesus on the road he leads
us. Knowing that one day we will arrive at our true home. We are
weak, filled with defects, beset with many difficulties, but with you, Our
Lady of the Cajuns, by our side, we will never give up. We await the day
when you will lead us into the arms of Jesus. Amen.
